Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a major film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
